Memories in a Song

A line in a song, a riff in a melody, sometimes it just takes you back to a special place in time. I love music. I live my life to the lyrics in a song (or maybe songs are just written about me really often). Some songs bring me right back to a memory of a time in my life that make me smile & some make me burst out in laughter.

Into the Mystic by Van Morrison is no different.

Let me take a you back a few years…

I was tending bar at a local club. We played all sorts of music. One night, I heard a song that I had never heard before. That song was (you guessed it) Into the Mystic.

The melody was beautiful and the words struck me right to the core, but it was what happened next that I remember most vividly.

I looked out into the bar and there it was. A vision I will never forget. Mystic dancing on stage. She danced so beautifully as she interpreted the dance. The way she worked the pole to the ever-so-sensual beat of the song. And I wanna rock your gypsy soul…

So I may have left out a few details. The “club” I was tending bar at was a strip club. Mystic, the dancer, was a stripper. And now, a beautiful, romantic song has this fantastic memory associated with it.

Never be afraid to dance (or run) in the rain…

You get zero percent of the chances you don’t take.  Who said that?!  I don’t know, but it sounds pretty good.

These months leading up to August are pretty big for me in the sense that the last time I sat down and created my “5 year plan” (or rough sketch, if you will) was almost 5 years ago.  Moving away from home, graduating from college, finding myself…all part of the “plan”.  The past 5 years have certainly had their share of ups and downs, but regardless, I wouldn’t trade them for anything.  I have experienced love like I had never seen before, not only in romantic relationships, but also in family, friendships, and of course, myself.  I experienced true heartbreak for the first time and overcame severe depression (that I kept extremely secret, until now).  I have learned to live life for me and no one else.  With that mentality, some people have walked away,  but the ones that matter have stuck it out and accepted that.  I have also experienced things that I never thought I would and am extremely grateful for.

Today, I had a little “coming-to-Jesus” with myself during a run (and by little, I mean the skies opened, baby angels sang, & Jesus was right there in his tuxedo t-shirt).

Side note: if you’ve never run through a FL hurricane season afternoon shower, let me give you a little description.  Imagine running on a treadmill, not going anywhere, while an industrial fan blows tiny shards of glass at your body.  That’s what its like, not even kidding.

I made some big decisions and thought about my next 5 years.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I give 100% to everything I do.  Half-assed is never a way to describe my work.  I have a lot of wants and goals to achieve.  So, to the next 5 years, we’ll be together for some time, so get ready for me to make you my bitch.

Farewell Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade

Well, now that Pandora’s construction is well under way, we say goodbye to another one of our Walt Disney World attractions. Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle parade has run since October 2001.  While it is not one of my favorites, I felt the need to attend the final performance and am completely guilty of shedding a few tears.  This parade contained some high energy performances, unique costumes and characters, and some fun music.  I won’t say a whole lot about it, but please enjoy some photos and if you missed it, click here.

10 Men I am Dangerously Obsessed With

H.L. Miller is probably my favorite blogger out there due to the fact that her thoughts & my thoughts are exactly the same. For a good laugh, check this post out.

Restless Nights in One-night Cheap Hotels

Someone contact the mental hospital ASAP if I run into any of these men during my lifetime.

I am going to need to be sedated.

I’m not joking.

10. Matthew McConaughey.

I was never a huge McConaughey fan until Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective. Matt never really amused me in any of his romantic comedies and I thought his acting was horrible. His physical perfection caught my attention during Magic Mike, can’t lie. His tan, greased up body was a turn on, but what was an bigger turn on was his decision to stop acting in shitty movies. I literally became obsessed with him after True Detective. The strangest thing that attracted me to Matthew McConaughey was his hair. His hair was styled so perfectly in True Detective, the camera focusing in on a strand of his luscious curls wandering aimlessly across his gorgeous face…
